GEIGER COUNTER/ZUDAS KRUST - Split
Minneapolis' post futurist crust punks team up with long running Indonesian crasher crusties. Pro dubbed cassette with 5 tracks of crashing and powerful punk.
This tape contains the 3 tracks left over from the Geiger Counter sessions of the Nuclear EP which will finally be available in the US from Profane Existence.
Split tape from these two metallic crust bands. Geiger Counter is from Minneapolis and you may remember them from their previous releases while Zudas Krust is a long-running Indonesian band I’m hearing for the first time. It’s a good pairing since both bands sound like they’re influenced by Japanese hardcore, but infuse the sound with a distinct death metal influence, particularly in the guttural vocal sound the two bands share. The first two tracks on Geiger Counter’s side have a Death Side gallop, an epic feel, and even a few melodic, Chelsea-esque lead guitar breaks, while the last track speeds things up to more of a Bastard tempo. As for Zudas Krust, their recording is rawer and their sound is even more metal. While some of it still sounds like Japanese hardcore, Axegrinder’s Rise of the Serpent Men would be a closer reference point. Good stuff for the dreadlocks and denim crowd.

LIFE - Ossification of Coral
The third full-length release from Tokyo’s seasoned crasher crusties. With headfirst full on power and brutal raw punk, this is an amazing follow up to their previous releases. Thirteen blistering tracks filled with energy showing that there’s no stopping them in their quest of anti-nukes protest punk. As the title of the record implies, this is also a record to raise awareness of the importance of the ecosystem, the exploitation of coral reefs and its existence as well as its impact on humans and all life’s survival. True to their beliefs and practicing what they preach, here raising political awareness in a time where censorship is law and silence is maintained through fear. LIFE as a collective takes a stand and inspires a resistant culture.
